Over the Mountain Weekend Shuttle

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari now offers a dedicated shuttle service for experienced walkers keen to traverse the maunga via the Wairere Traverse, Te Raki, or Te Tonga tracks. 

This pre-booked service departs from the Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari Education Centre carpark at 99 Tari Road (southern side of the maunga) at 7:30am and 9:00am every Saturday and Sunday, with space for up to 11 walkers per shuttle. 

Your driver will transport you to Hicks Rd, near the starting point of the Over the Mountain tracks on the northern side of the maunga, sharing local insights and stories of the sanctuary along the way. 

Please note trekking Over the Mountain is not suitable for children under 12. 
PRE-BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL Introductory price: $20 per person. Service requires a minimum of two passengers to run. We will contact you the Friday afternoon before the service if this minimum has not been met. 

Note that there is a booking close off from midday on Friday for Saturday morning Shuttles, and midday Saturday for Sunday morning Shuttle.   

Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your Shuttle departure and meet in the Education Centre carpark at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari on Tari Rd. Look for the large welcome sign with a kākā on it near the end of Tari Road (the last gate/ driveway on the left before the end of Tari Road). Turn left through this gate (Education Centre parking area) and park here. The Shuttle will be waiting for you to board in the Education Centre carpark.
